Although buckets and spades are available from all good stockist's, JCB's are recommended.
And a warning, if it lives in the sea, don't eat it without boiling the flesh off it first. If it floats in the sea, it either came from Faulty Towers, so notify the undertakers because it might have fallen off the back of one of their vans (local joke), alternatively if it is still wrapped in toilet paper and you recognise it, take it home, flush it again, and see if you can get it further out into the estuary this time.
You might have read in your information pack; supplied to you by the local Tourist Information Centre, that beach side property is available for rent.
These are renovated shellfish huts located just behind the inadequate sea defences to the west of the old harbour.

Near enough to the sea you can taste it, renovated to the lowest standards possible by out of work local fishermen, these plush villas (gauged on a Thanington standard) will be your retreat from the hustle and bustle of London.
On a good day you can see not only Sheppey but Southend, but who wants to when Whitstable has so much to offer the visitor.
Kent On-Line 28/02/08 under the heading 'Slums' would be today's des-res wrote. Whitstable escaped slum clearance, and its fishermen's cottages are now rented out at phenomenal rates, seen as part of the area's charm. Or in local terms. “How the fleece the tourist”
Now I thought that Whitstable was the place to be if you happened to be from London!
I was also under the impression that rooms were like rocking horse droppings at the weekend, and that even the WOFC could rent sheds on the beach for we were that sought after as a weekend sortie from Yupminster or St. Reatham's (Streatham to you and I)!
Well maybe the WOFC are not doing as well as we thought, or is it just that someone wants to make money from unsuspecting punters on e-bay by offering a shed, sorry hut, at a starting price of £200.00 for a two night stay. It gives a taster of the type of accommodation to expect for your money, but the seller known as hotelcontinental (sounds familiar) gives the following as a reason for this sale.
"I have them on offer as a friend of mine booked the tickets but cant now make it to Whitstable. He paid £450 for the 2 nights. Hopefully you will get a bargain here".
I can't wait to see what a two night stay in a shed in Whitstable will go for?
I wonder if there is a law against renting out caravans parked along Tankerton seafront? Now I know what I can do with it when I am not blocking roads heading West or North! Somewhere near Graystone Road I think will be best!

UPDATE: Well the seller changed his name from hotelcontinental to Superblue1000, and there was only one bidder for the lot that went for £200. Two nights in a luxury shed in Whitstable for £200, I'd call that a London bargain!
I am really glad the beach art that was seen over the summer months in 2006 was a success, even if the backdrop was Bretts, but look the other way and you will see the seafood restaurant has had an outhouse attached at the rear and the owners have named it the Whitstable Brewery Bar. Just what the Londoners need a shed to watch their shed from.
So they may not be able to swim in front of the huts, but a watering hole is available nearby!
